I thought that if I was:

1. Patient with others

2. Kind, understanding and compassionate

3. Sacrificed so my children can have a better life than I did

4. Put my husband's needs ahead of my own; even have sex when I really need sleep

5. Make sure that I participate at church, school, social and community organizations

6. Volunteer for good causes

7. Made sure to be effective, efficient and productive at work

8. Stay organized at home and work

9. Stay up-to-date on technology, the news, and world events to be informed

10. Become financially successful

Then I would be satisfied, content and happy. Why am I not? I'm too tired.

May is Women's Health Care Month. A 21st century woman's daily new norm is overload, overwhelm, multitasking and staying "on." Women are paying a high price to "be all, do all and have it all." For most, they are wondering if there is going to be anything left of them after they finish their to-do lists. This ever increasing stress keeps the body in a state of ramped-ness. It is no wonder that heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States. Most know the ramped-ness as stress. But do you really know what stress is and what it does to you?

Stress puts the body in a state of constriction which I call the survival ego self. When you are in the survival ego self you become so disconnected from your body that you don't even feel the tension in your muscles until it has escalated into a painful cramp or spasm or you yell or scream or make a nasty negative comment to your loved ones. While stress is necessary for life, it can spiral out of control becoming detrimental to health. Stress helps you when it causes your body to fight an infection or heal a broken bone. It can make you push yourself to work overtime to complete an important project. Once it is completed, a little bit of rest and you bounce back no worse for wear.

But when you stay in an ongoing stressful state like working overtime, caring for aging or ill parents, or taking care of your own children with no down time for you, the stress begins to whittle away at your health: emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

Stress research shows that over 1,400 known physical and chemical responses take place in the body. Stress activates more than 30 different hormones and neurotransmitters![1] When this happens, your thinking becomes confused and distorted, your short term memory is suppressed and you become more reactive to things you wouldn't normally react to. This distorted perceptual stress soup is a mix of facts, confusion, and if we have unexpressed unprocessed trauma, it gets triggered as well.

Now everything is wrong and you pull out your list going back to the beginning of time looking for someone to blame for your present problem. Or, you just start beating up on yourself rehashing old negative self-talk tapes that lead you to Nowheresville. Your decisions from this reactive place don't consider consequences; you just react.

Another interesting thing about stress is that men and women deal with it differently. (Imagine that!) Studies have shown that when a husband and wife have an argument, his stress hormones decrease within the hour but hers are still high for another 12 hours. Other studies show that pregnant women who experience extreme stress have high levels of cortisol in their blood stream, possibly shutting up to 60% of the oxygen and nutrients away from the fetus. It is also believed that cortisol can cause the dendrites (the branches that contain memories) to shrink temporarily, causing memory blocks and that "going blank" experience. As cortisol levels decrease, the dendrites plump back up and your memory and thinking become clearer.

Research done at UCLA in 1998 showed that while most men and some women react to stress with the fight or flight response, women have another way to respond to stress. It is called "tend and befriend."[2] Women appear to be physiologically wired to reach out and communicate with each other, connecting in ways that help decrease stress and help one become calmer and less afraid. This instinctual "woman's way" is compromised in today's society because for almost everyone there is no time left in our 24/7 jam-packed lifestyle to have much tending and befriending.

Technology that looks like connection (cell phones, computers, computer games, tablets, etc.) is increasing our disconnection. No one can deny that we are living in challenging times, but mostly outside of our windows of stress tolerance. As a therapist, I see every day the devastation stress is causing to the human spirit and soul. Individuals and families struggle with stress escalation and become stuck in survival ego, disconnecting from the ones they love.

We can't stay in this place and survive. Women are the nurturers. Who nurtures the nurturers? What happens when they are not?

According to some studies, women who allow themselves to connect with each other release an essential calming brain chemical called oxytocin. A great book that explains our inner calming chemistry is The Chemistry of Connection: How the Oxytocin Response Can Help You Find Trust, Intimacy and Love [3]by Susan Kuchinskas. Oxytocin builds on our attachment/caregiving system. Oxytocin seems to counteract the metabolic activity associated with physiological reactivity from the stress reactions fight-or-flight like increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure and increased cortisol levels (which for women seem to go to their middle?) Our present day lifestyle is not promoting us to connect at a physical or emotional level. So, what do we do?

1. Hit the pause button for at least 5 minutes a day even if it is in one minute increments.

2. Just take that pausing moment to close your eyes and breathe.

3. Remember mistakes are for learning, not for beating yourself up. Learn the lesson, apply it and move on.

4. You know these: healthy food, moderate exercise, good night's sleep. Put your knowing into action and DO these.

5. De-cluttering your home and work space can reduce stress.

6. Create and maintain a support system.

7. Pray and meditate. Ask and Listen.

8. Connect with nature.

9. Ask for a hug.

10. Decrease multitasking. (I know this one is hard but try doing one thing before starting something else. It has really helped for me to do this. It feels like I'm barely moving but I'm actually getting more done!)

You are neurophysiologically and spiritually made to be in relationships. In order to thrive in life you need healthy, loving and safe relationships.

However, stress will take you out of relationships and put you in your survival ego. You will then become disconnected from yourself and then others. You cannot be in survival ego and connected at the same time. This is what drives the loneliness, isolation and violence in our world: disconnection. It is not your natural state. You need to be calm and connected to your heart to emotionally connect to yourself and then others. That is why self-care is so important. Without it we shrivel. Your family, friends, work and community do not need you shriveled.

We all need you blossoming into the creative wonderful soulful woman that lies underneath the survival ego. We need you healthy, joyful, and loving. We take care of what we value. Take care of yourself; you are valuable.

Women's health is a peculiar thing. While each woman is very unique and has her own ideas of what is and is not right for her body, there is a lot of talk politically and religiously speaking about what a woman should and should not do with her body. While it seems that everyone, everywhere wants to chime in about these things, it is still well within the rights of a woman to have her health be the personalized and dignified health experience that it should be. Luckily, there are women's health clinics that will provide all of the service, information and education that is needed when making potentially life changing decisions.

When dealing with abortion, women need a health clinic experience that isn't just about collecting a payment and getting in and out as quickly as possible. Instead, these experiences start with counseling. The most successful women's health clinics treat the women with respect. They talk to the women about what they are thinking and feeling. Abortion is an emotional decision for most women, so being in a caring environment with someone who knows who they are talking about and what they are doing, can provide the woman with a lot of consolation and information that they are doing the best thing for themselves.

Women can also be educated about the difference between surgical and non surgical abortions. Pregnancies can be terminated in both ways, but there are different reasons and different requirements in terms of timing that need to be considered. While being educated in counseling, the woman can learn about the different methods of termination, so she knows what her options may be, and what each option entails. The level of education and support is important, so that a woman knows exactly what is happening with her body and she'll also know what her options are and why those options are the best for her particular situation.

Women who receive all of this information in a constructive and supportive setting are more likely to end up making the decision that is right for them. There is no pressure, just straight forward information that allows them to make decisions based not just on emotion or information that they have heard from a friend or family member, so they are able to come to a conclusion that will give them the most peace of mind.

Women's clinics that can provide this well rounded, respectful and education are out there and will help women from all walks of life. Clinics are there to provide health services to women who need them, and to educate them about their bodies so that they can remain as healthy as possible, and so they can choose to carry children to term, if they want, that will be happy and healthy. An educated women is always a happier, healthier woman, and they are judgment free, allowing a woman to get the information she needs, as well as the services she needs to live the life she has envisioned for herself.

The focus on women's health is important because more times than most, it isn't only the wellbeing of the fairer sex that's at stake. Many turn out to mother children and if their health isn't at its peak, it can mean health conditions and weakened immune systems for their babies.

Eating right

The first order of business is a healthy diet. The six basic nutrients we learnt about in school (to recap, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water) make up the core of healthy diets and must be consumed in proportionate quantities. Since we all have different nutritional requirements, a dietician in consultation with a doctor can chart a healthy eating plan to match body needs.

Most foods today are made up of ingredients that aren't good for health. Items high in cholesterol, sugar, sodium and saturated and unsaturated fats should be eliminated from a diet or at least kept to a minimum. On the other hand, whole grains, fish like salmon which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fresh fruits and vegetables, low fat milk and milk products and polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats can do women a world of good.

Food allergies are a relatively common problem which forces people to eliminate certain items from their diet. The same applies to those with lactose intolerance. In such cases, substituting problem foods with those that don't cause adverse reactions is the only solution.

Physical activity

Exercise and motion are the keys to keeping obesity at bay, improving blood circulation through increased heart rate, keeping joints flexible, muscles toned, enhancing sex life, and boosting good moods.

Working out three or four times a week is recommended and a gym isn't always required. Short walks of 10 minutes spread out three or four times a day is enough. Engaging in sports, running and jogging are also great ways to work out.

Women who perform a lot of household chores manually are fitter than those who rely on machines. But since most of the population uses equipment, it's necessary to supplement this with regular exercise.

Regular checkups

Certain health conditions are prevalent among women and some can be fatal if left untreated. Regular checkups can prevent them. Following are a few must-do's for the fairer sex once they hit their 20s.

Complete physical: A complete physical consists of testing cholesterol, blood sugar, vitamin deficiencies, thyroid and kidney/liver function. It should start from the age of 20 followed by three to five year breaks for the rest of their lives.

Pap smear: A Pap smear is a procedure that checks for cervical cancer. Women aged 21 should begin the test followed by the same every two or three years. Once they hit 30, the test should be combined with one to check for HPV, a sexually transmitted disease, and followed by checkups every five years.

Mammogram: Where a Pap smear checks for cervical cancer, a mammogram does so for breast cancer. Women aged 40 and above are encouraged to undergo checkups every two years. If there's a genetic predisposition to the disease, starting from the age of 30 is recommended.

Colonoscopy: A colonoscopy is a diagnostic tool that checks for colorectal cancer. Women aged 50 and above are more prone to developing the disease. However, getting a colonoscopy every 10 years drastically reduces its lethal outcome.

Approximately 30 to 40% of women suffer from uterine fibroids that are usually benign growths that are found on the uterine muscle. Fibroids and their treatment continue to be researched and one of the important factors known is that they mainly affect black women. Women of other races are also affected but to a lesser extent. This article discusses fibroids and the detection of uterine fibroids.

It is important to know that most fibroids do not require any treatment and do not cause problems. Other fibroids however may cause heavy menstrual cycles. The heavy blood loss associated with these heavy periods can lead to anemia or debilitation. In other cases, these heavy periods can lead to a condition known as "compression syndrome". This condition affects the adjacent body organs such as the bladder leading to frequent urination, or bloating and constipation.

Fibroids can also press on the nerves and lead to backache or a bulging abdominal area that is aesthetically displeasing.

It can also be confusing to determine if you have fibroids or ovarian cysts. A doctor will be able to give a proper diagnosis. An ovarian cyst is a fluid filled sac on the ovary that may also develop in the fallopian tube. A fibroid on the other hand is a muscle growth that is solid and smooth that develops on the uterus walls. Both are usually benign (non-cancerous).

Fibroids usually develop during the later reproductive years and have been found in women over 35 years of age in 1/3 of the cases. As previously mentioned, they mainly affect black women or women who have a family history of fibroids.

Fibroids do not usually produce symptoms in most women and are usually detected in much the same way as ovarian cysts though normal pelvic exams. An ultrasound can also be administered to detect the fibroids. An ultrasound can also differentiate between a fibroid and an ovarian cyst.

Uterine fibroids usually become a problem when they become large in size thus leading to increased pressure on the bladder or rectum or a protruding belly. Large fibroids can also lead to heavy periods or severe pain in the pelvic region.

Fibroids are most common in the uterus or womb and are benign. They usually develop in the uterine wall and attach to the wall. They can also migrate outside the uterus. Fibroids can develop as a single tumor or develop into clusters of tumors.

Fibroids - When to Seek Medical Treatment

1. Pain in the pelvic region or abdominal area

2. Heavy or irregular menstrual cycles or bleeding or spotting between periods

3. Night sweats or if you experience fever

4. Unusual increasing abdominal girth

5. Fertility concerns with inability to fall pregnant or other pregnancy concerns

Immediate medical treatment should be sought if any of the following occur;

a. Prolonged or intense abdominal pain or severe and prolonged pain in the pelvic region.

b. If the menstrual cycle involves heavy bleeding that soaks up more that three pads or tampons each hour.

c. If you experience dizziness, shortness of breath or chest pain due to vaginal bleeding, etc.

d. If you experience vaginal bleeding related to possible pregnancy or current pregnancy.

Uterine Fibroids - Test and Exams

a. Endometrial biopsy - A small tool is used to get small samples of tissue from the uterus.

b. Trans-vaginal or Pelvic Ultrasound - Sound waves are used to give your physician a view of your pelvic area in order to determine the size, number and shape of the fibroids.

c. Hysterosalpingography - A dye is administered into the uterus and fallopian tube. An x-ray is then used to identify the fibroids.

d. Hysteroscopy - A small fiber optic camera is used to view the uterus through the cervix opening.

e. Laparoscopy - A Small fiber optic camera is also used here that is inserted through the abdomen in order to view the internal organs.

Before fibroids become severe, there are various holistic or natural remedies that have been shown to work wonders in treating and curing fibroids. These are preferred by a growing number of women because they are less invasive and the sufferers can avoid surgery some of which includes a hysterectomy.

The ovarian cyst is a sac containing liquid, solid material or both, that has attached on the surface of the ovary or has developed inside of it. The ovarian cyst is not a rare disease and seems to affect women aged from 30 to 60. Both ovaries get be affected at the same time or at a distance of years one from another and they can have one or more cysts attached. These cysts are mostly non cancerous but 15 % of them transform into cancerous ones.

Once a month, in the process of ovulation, the women's body produces hormones which help the follicles grow. These follicles are shaped as a sac and contain the eggs and fluid. After the egg has grown the follicle normally ruptures in order to set the egg free. After that the follicle will become a smaller sac known as luteum. The ovarian cysts are forming due to the failure of the follicles rupturing or due to not releasing the egg. Scientists have classified the cysts into five: functional cysts, endometrial cysts, polycystic ovaries, cystadenomas and dermoid cysts. The functional cysts contain the follicle cyst and corpus luteum cyst which are a part of the normal process that is performed in the ovary.

The follicle cyst measures 2 inches and forms when the egg is sent to the fallopian tube or if the follicle fails to rupture. Most of them disappear in one to three months.

Generally after the egg is removed from the follicle and if the woman is not pregnant the follicle has to transform into luteum, a smaller sac and then disintegrate. If this small sac gets filled with liquid it will form the corpus luteum cyst which will remain inside the ovary.

The polycystic ovarian syndrome is another disease I which the ovaries get filled with intact follicles. It seems that normally the pituitary hormones like progesterone are controlling the egg production process. In some women the pituitary gland does not work properly and so, a lot of follicles are being produced and then stockpiled under the ovaries' surface. This way the ovaries grow in size, become enlarged and are filled with tiny cysts.

The endometrial cysts refer to the cysts that are formed out of endometrial tissue and blood. The endometrial tissue normally is found in the uterus but in this case it grows in other places too and bleeds, forming the cysts. These cysts can grow for a long time until they reach the size of a grapefruit.

The cystadenomas are neoplasms which appear from the tissue of the ovary and are classified in two: the serous cystadenoma and the mucous cystadenoma. The first one contains liquid and can reach the diameter of 6 inches. The second one contains a gelatinous substance and can get to 12 inches in diameter.

Generally cysts are 'silent' and they do not give any symptoms until the get ruptured during sexual intercourse or childbirth. When this happens, the woman will complain of intense abdominal pain, problems with menstruation like bleeding between periods or heavy menstrual flow and infertility which happens in polycystic ovaries. In endometrial cysts, internal bleeding can occur, menstrual cramps, painful sexual intercourse, and weight gain.

If the woman senses a sharp pain it means that the cyst had ruptured or twisted. It is important to go to the hospital as soon as possible as an infection can be produced and the woman's life can be in danger.

The hemorrhagic cysts of ovaries are viewed by medical professionals as so-called functioning cysts. That means that those cysts are affected by hormones, occur during a normal menstrual cycle, and also they are not caused by any specific disease. As a matter of fact, the hemorrhagic ovarian cysts are the most common type o-f cyst. They are most likely happened to be benign, which means they are probably non-cancerous.

Most hemorrhagic ovarian cysts are diagnosed through CT scans, ultrasounds and are quite often found during bi-annual and annual gynecologist visits.

Although the hemorrhagic ovarian cyst symptoms may vary in between females, a woman who suspects of having those type of cyst must be aware that there are some symptoms that overblown or even not true.

The first indication of existing cyst may come as a sudden dull but steady pain in the lower abdomen located either to the right or left of the intestines. This pain may sometimes intensify during the menstrual cycle or during strenuous exercise.

Additionally irregular menstrual periods as well as abnormal spotting and increased pain during menstruation could be caused by hemorrhagic ovarian cyst. Other common symptoms are excessive bloating or tenderness in the lower abdomen that does not lessen after a finished monthly cycle as well as nausea or vomiting and fatigue. An affected woman may occasionally suffer from fever; however the raised body temperature is mostly not present. The truth is, the hemorrhagic cyst will go unnoticed most of the time because the women might take an anti-inflammatory medication or pain reliever, which reduce or keep the fever down.

Depending on the severity of the cyst most hemorrhagic ovarian cyst treatments require very little medical attention such as recurring office visits and at home treatment is all that is needed. Over-the-counter pain relievers are advised for the occurring pain; however if the pain is severe and persistent, the physician might prescribe some stronger.

A common heating pad or hot water applied to the sore area is quite often applied to alleviate localized pain and bloating. Normally the sufferer is not restricted to exercise her usual daily routines; however she might be advised to avoid few strenuous activities at least until the pain decreases.

In case the pain persists for an extended period of time or if there has been ovarian cancer present in the medical history of the woman, the doctor will order a biopsy or a Laparoscopy.

Depending on the size and growth of the cyst some may require surgical removal.
The chances of occurrence of this disorder vary from 5-10% among the females of age group of 12-45 resulting in female sub-fertility. This endocrine disorder can be identified by anovulation which is diagnosed by irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, polycystic ovaries, ovulation-related infertility, excessive secretion of androgenic hormones that cause hirsutism and acne. High cholesterol level, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance are other known symptoms. All these symptoms vary among different individuals. The disorder is known by a number of other names like polycystic ovary disease, functional ovarian hyperandrogenism, ovarian hyperthecosis and Stein-Leventhal syndrome. A polycystic ovary has abnormal number of eggs that can be viewed near its surface resembling cysts.

Polycystic ovary syndrome is generally described by two definitions. First definition was given by NIH or NICHD in 1990 which suggests that if a female is suffering from oligoovulation, shows signs of androgen excess and other entities that result in polycystic ovaries then the female is suffering from this endocrine disorder. The second definition was given in a workshop sponsored by ESHRE/ASRM held in Rotterdam in 2003 which predicts that if a female is suffering from oligoovulation or anovulation, has excess androgen activity and symptoms of polycystic ovary then she is suffering from polycystic ovary disease. The second definition appears to be wider and acceptable. The chief symptoms of the polycystic ovary syndrome include menstrual disorders chiefly amenorrhea and oligomenorrhea but other menstrual disorders may also crop up. Chronic anovulation results in infertility. High levels of androgens result in acne and hirsutism. Hypermenorrhea and other symptoms can also make their appearance. About three quarters of the females suffering from this endocrine disorder generally suffer from hyperandrogenemia. Central obesity and insulin resistance are also noticed. Serum insulin and homocysteine levels are significantly higher in females with this disease.

It is not always necessary that the women suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) may have polycystic ovaries and similar is the condition that all the women with polycystic ovaries may not suffer from this syndrome. The syndrome can be easily diagnosed by the pelvic ultrasound but other diagnostic tools are also available. History of the individual based on menstrual pattern, obesity, hirsutism and absence of breast development can help the medical professional. Gynecologic ultrasonography can be performed which helps in the detection of small ovarian follicles. These small follicles are believed to be formed due to disturbed ovarian function where ovulation has failed to take place due to absence of menstruation. In a normal menstrual cycle a single egg is released from the dominant follicle. After ovulation, the remnant of the follicle is converted into a characteristic structure known as corpus luteum formed by the action of progesterone. This structure finally disappears after 12-14 days. In polycystic ovary syndrome, although a number of follicles are formed but none of them grows more than 5-7 mm in length and fail to enter the preovulatory stage of the menstrual cycle. According to the Rotterdam criteria there must be 12 or more than 12 small follicles detected in the ultrasound. These small follicles are generally present near the periphery of the ovarian wall giving it the appearance of string of pearls. The ovary enlarges and attains a size which is 1.5 to 3 times greater than the normal size and this is due to the presence of these abnormal follicles.
Laparoscopic examinations depict the presence of a white, smooth outer surface of ovary. The serum (blood) levels of androgens specifically androstenedione and testosterone are elevated. The levels of dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate are also higher. The free testosterone levels are also high and it gives the best clue about the presence of this syndrome. The free androgen index of the ratio of testosterone to sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) is generally higher but it is a poor indicator. Some blood tests are also suggested but they are not good indicators of the diagnosis of the polycystic ovary syndrome. The ratio of LH (Luteinizing Hormone) to FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) is greater than 1:1 as tested on the third day of menstruation. Among the obese women the levels of the sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) is generally low. Fasting biochemical screening and lipid profiling of the individual can be carried out while searching for this syndrome. A 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test (GTT) of the suspected individuals can be carried out which indicates impaired glucose tolerance in 15-30% patients of this syndrome. Insulin resistance is very commonly noticed in the patients of polycystic ovary syndrome. Other clinical disorders may also be associated with menstrual abnormalities namely Cushing's syndrome, hypothyroidism, congenital adrenal hyperplasia and pituitary disorders.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a generically inherited condition. It is inherited in an autosomal dominant system with higher risk of occurrence in females. The chances of inheriting the gene responsible for this syndrome are 50% if the parent is carrying the gene. The gene responsible for this syndrome can although be inherited either from the father or the mother and the gene can be passed to the sons but the symptoms may arise only in the daughters. The gene responsible for this disorder has not been yet identified. Polycystic ovaries generally develop when the ovaries are stimulated to produce excessive amounts of the male hormones particularly testosterone. This may happen due to release of excessive amounts of the luteinizing hormone (LH) from the anterior pituitary gland or elevated levels of insulin in the blood of women who are sensitive to insulin or reduced levels of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) in blood which results in increased level of free androgens. The syndrome has acquired its name polycystic due to resemblance of the small follicles with the cysts. The follicles develop from the primordial follicles but their development ceases at the antral stage due to the disturbed ovarian function. These cysts like follicles get arranged at the periphery of the ovarian wall. Majority of the patients with this disorder in general show insulin resistance and this can cause abnormalities similar to those observed in the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian-axis.

The symptoms of the polycystic ovarian disease are very complex and may not be same for all the patients. In many cases it can be characterized by hyperandrogenism and insulin resistance. Majority of the cases of this disease have a genetic basis. The excessive amounts of the adipose tissue in the obese individuals also increase levels of androgens and estrogens. Adipose tissue carries an enzyme identified as aromatase that participates in the conversion of androstenedione to estrone and testosterone to estradiol. Hyperinsulinemia causes an increase in the GnRH pulse frequency, increased ovarian androgen production, decreased follicular maturation and decreased sex hormone binding globulin levels that ultimately result in polycystic ovary disease. Chronic inflammations may also result in this syndrome. A study carried out in the United Kingdom indicated that the incidence of polycystic ovary disease is higher in the lesbian women than the heterosexuals. The medications given to the patients of this disease generally focus on lowering of insulin levels, fertility restoration, hirsutism or acne treatment and prevention of endometrial hyperplasia, endometrial cancer and restoration of regular menstrual cycle. Cases where the disease is associated with obesity, weight loss is the effective strategy for the commencement of regular menstruation. Low carbohydrate diet and regular exercise may help in weight loss.

All the females with the polycystic ovary disease may not face the difficulty of becoming pregnant only those suffering from anovulation may face the problem. Patients with the problem of anovulation may be treated with clomiphene citrate and FSH injections. The patients who fail to give positive results with clomiphene and FSH treatments are treated with assisted reproductive technology procedures like controlled ovarian hyperstimulation with follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) injections followed by in vitro fertilization (IVF). Surgery is generally not performed in case of the polycystic ovary but a laparoscopic procedure known as ovarian drilling is generally carried out. Hirsutism can be treated by using an effective standard contraceptive pill. The key ingredient of the contraceptive pills is cyproterone acetate which is a progestogen. This compound is anti-androgenic in action and blocks the activity of male hormones that are responsible for acne and unwanted hair growth on face and over body. Other drugs that carry anti-androgen effects include flutamide and spironolactone that can effectively reduce hirsutism. Spironolactone is the most commonly used drug in the United States. Menstrual problems can be regulated by the use of contraceptive pills but these drugs can cause additional problems if continued for a long time. Two inositol isomers namely D-chiro-inositol and myo-inositol have given promising results against this syndrome.

Women suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome are at the risk of getting affected with endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer. These clinical manifestations may crop up due to over accumulation of the uterine lining and absence of progesterone which is responsible for the prolonged stimulation of the uterine cells by estrogen. These symptoms set a positive background for the appearance of other health problems like obesity, hyperinsulinemia, hyperandrogenism, type-2 diabetes and insulin resistance. A study conducted in 2010 spotlighted that the women suffering from polycystic ovary disease are at an elevated risk of getting affected with type-2 diabetes and insulin resistance. High blood pressure, depression or depression with anxiety, miscarriage, excessive weight gain, cardiovascular disease, acanthosis nigricans, autoimmune thyroiditis are other risks associated with this syndrome.

Immediate medical treatment should be sought if any of the following occur;

They are also called leiomyoma, myoma, fibromyoma, leiofibromyoma or fibroleiomyoma of the uterus and they can grow on the uterine wall and push out into the bladder, bowel or intestine or can grow within the uterine wall, or even project from the wall of the uterus on a narrow stalk into the uterine cavity. They can be as small as a pea and may go unnoticed but they can cause problems if they grow big.

Some of the symptoms of fibroids can be following:

• Cramps
They are considered to be foreign bodies by the uterus which needs to be expelled. The resulting pressure on the uterine fibroid can cause strong spasms i.e. sudden involuntary muscular contractions.

• Constipation and Pelvic Pain
Normal bowel movements can be hampered when the fibroids press on the colon, causing pain during digestion. They also compress other organs inducing pressure which can be experienced in the form of sharp pains.

• Heavy Menstruation and Vaginal Bleeding
There can be abnormal bleeding. Some women may experience bleeding after a long time of going through menopause which indicates fibroid development.

• Urinary Infections
Fibroids can cause urinary tract infections which may lead to frequent urination or difficulty in urination.

• Abdominal Swelling and Back Pain
A bulging belly that feels hard on touching is a common symptom. Many women with fibroids can appear to be pregnant due to the swelling. In some cases, women with fibroids experience pain in the back or legs.

Besides all these symptoms, they also disturb conception. When it blocks the fallopian tube, fertilization cannot take place. When it grows near the uterine lining, implantation of the fertilized egg can be disrupted, thus causing miscarriages and sometimes women with extremely large growth may not be able to conceive simply because of the size of the fibroid.

These are quite common among women and may a times. A woman is not aware that she is having them. In such cases, they do not cause any symptoms or problems, and they remain unnoticed. Their existence can be hereditary. Conception and intake of oral contraceptives both decrease the likelihood that they will develop. They have not been observed in girls who have not reached puberty and adolescent girls rarely develop them. Some other factors that have been associated with an increased risk of developing fibroids are having the first menstrual period (menarche) before the age of 10, consumption of alcohol (particularly beer), uterine infections and high blood pressure (hypertension).
It is a feeling of ecstasy that you are going to be a MUMMY!!! You will be playing and caring about a new small member in your family!!! Though the pregnancy starts from the first day of the last menstrual period, the would be mother feels the symptoms of pregnancy only after few weeks. However, symptoms of pregnancy are not the same for every woman; the following are common signs that can foretell the pregnancy.

Missed Menstrual Period

It is the most obvious and common symptom of pregnancy. Some women may not completely miss the monthly cycle but have much lighter period in comparison to their usual one.

Morning Sickness AND NAUSEA

Nausea is a precursor to morning sickness. It can signify that a woman is pregnant. Morning sickness is caused by crave for food as the stomach is queasy, above normal amount of hormones etc. Many women suffer from nausea up to two weeks before an expected monthly cycle. Eating several smaller meals instead of larger ones can help with nausea. The body requirement of each woman is different and different food may or may not contribute to morning sickness.

Tender Breasts

Usually tenderness of breast is a precursor to forthcoming period but this tenderness along with swollen and sore breasts with a tickly feeling can be an early indicator of pregnancy. The hormone level increases during pregnancy. Breasts plays important role in nourishing young newborn babies. Breasts become more sensitive during pregnancy and prepare themselves for producing milk and breastfeeding. Sometimes the nipples become dark in color.

Fatigue

Experiencing fatigue and exhaustiveness can also indicate pregnancy. The pregnant women feel sleepy all day. This is due to the changes in body and also the increasing levels of hormones. Frequent rests or naps whenever possible will work to revitalize your energies.

Frequent Urination

This increased urge to urinate continues all the pregnancy period. The increasing size of uterus puts pressure on urinary bladder and extra body fluids are processed by kidneys. This results in early symptom of pregnancy that all will notice as you frequently rush towards restroom.

DIZZINESS AND/OR FAINTING OR LIGHT HEADEDNESS

The swollen uterus compresses the arteries of legs which can result into lowering blood pressure and make you dizzy. Low blood sugar level will make you faint, so it is said that you should have healthy and frequent eatables to maintain your blood sugar up.

FOOD CRAVINGS

Food cravings are a strong sign or symptoms of pregnancy. Pregnant women crave for certain foods especially sour and tangy eatable. Popping a vitamin supplement and a pure fish oil capsule may relieve you from some cravings. The cravings may be due to your body's need for special nutrition. Sometimes it is seen that women show aversionto certain foods which she used to like very much earlier.

SENSITIVITY TO AROMAS

Pregnant women become sensitive to aromas. Due to the increase in estrogen level strong fragrances will cause nausea.

HEARTBURN AND/OR CONSTIPATION

The problem of heartburn is caused due to: the swelling of uterus and pushing it against the stomach and other organs; slowing down of digestion due to increased hormonal level. So a good prenatal multi-vitamin-mineral supplement might provide pregnant woman's body with all the nutrients needed for growing baby. The high level of acid released from stomach slower emptying of the stomach and also causes heartburn. This is continued for first to ninth month.

MOOD SWINGS AND IRRITABILITY

With questions continuously popping to a would be mother's mind about timing, career, finances, motherhood, labor and delivery, mood swings and irritable behavior is quite natural. These symptoms of pregnanby are result of raging hormones. The pregnant woman may go through mixed emotions, sometimes excited on the second moment depressed, sometimes joyous and the other moment mourning, whereas sometimes laughter and sometimes tears. Second Trimester shows a decrease in this early symptom of pregnancy.

HIGHER BODY TEMPERATURE

When the body temperature is higher than normal then it might be a sign of good news coming your way. Tracking of body temperature for some days may give you an idea whether you are pregnant or not. If the increased temperature stays high continuously for two weeks, may be you are pregnant.

LOW BACK PAIN

About half of all the pregnant women show early pregnancy symptom of low back pain which is caused by the mother's increased weight. In later pregnancy months too the bulging uterus gets bigger, as the baby grows larger, and this will affect her posture and torso which would inturn put strain on the back.

Lack of relaxed sleep at night and hormones and loosening of joints and ligaments also cause the early pregnancy symptoms of low back pain.

Spotting

Spotting or "implantation bleeding" is not a very common symptom in pregnancy so it is not seen as obvious symptom of pregnancy. Not many of the women report it. Actually a slight bleeding or just spotting occurs at the time when zygote implants itself to the uterine wall. It takes place usually between 3 to 6 days after fertilization. Sometimes spotting may also occur because of miscarriage so if it happens any day see the gynecologist.

WEIGHT GAIN

If you are putting on weight unavoidably and the clothes are getting tighter day by day and you feel like bloating, then it may a pre-symptom of pregnancy though not necessarily.

If you observe some of the above symptoms rush to your Gynecologist to check that if you are pregnant. If he confirms pregnancy or you are planning to conceive take daily pre-natal vitamin supplements for your as well as for the health of your baby.

A phantom, or false, pregnancy, which is otherwise known as a pseudocyesis, is a condition in which a non-pregnant woman has all. The symptoms of pregnancy and firmly believes that she is pregnant. A woman who is suffering from a pseudocyesis will visit her doctor or the antenatal clinic complaining of all the symptoms and minor discomforts of early pregnancy, including absence of her periods, breast enlargement and breast changes, nausea and vomiting, increase of weight and abdominal distension. The clinical diagnosis of early pregnancy is extremely difficult, especially if such a person has a slightly enlarged uterus or is overweight, and it may be virtually impossible to confirm or deny the presence of a pregnancy by clinical examination alone. Since it is not the normal practice to perform pregnancy tests upon everybody who attends an antenatal clinic, she will probably be accepted as being pregnant and booked for confinement. The symptoms of pregnancy will continue and as the woman gains more weight she will become increasingly convinced about the presence of her pregnancy, although the fact that she is suffering from pseudocyesis may gradually become apparent to her.

True false pregnancy is extremely rare and it must not be confused with a woman who, having missed one, or perhaps two periods, has no symptoms of pregnancy but visits her doctor to find out why she has missed them, and to ascertain whether or not she is pregnant. The very small group of women who suffer from pseudocyesis are convinced about their pregnancy. It is a condition that occurs mainly in women in their late thirties or early forties who desperately want a child and have been trying to become pregnant for many years. It can also occur in younger women -especially when relatives and friends are having babies or asking and joking about the girls ability to become pregnant. Women who suffer from false pregnancies are normally emotionally quite stable but may become very unstable over the question of pregnancy.

Phantom pregnancy also occurs in some women who have lost a pregnancy or a baby. It may be an emotional reaction, but, in this case, there is increasing scientific evidence to indicate that a temporary hormone imbalance is the cause of all their symptoms.

The diagnosis of phantom pregnancy is extremely difficult, especially at the beginning of a false pregnancy. The uterus will remain normal in size and successive pregnancy tests, if performed, will be negative. As the false pregnancy proceeds, a marked increase in weight may occur, together with abdominal and breast enlargement, but the uterus will not enlarge nor will the breasts show active signs of pregnancy. None of the other physical signs of pregnancy will develop and all tests for pregnancy will be negative.

A woman who is suffering from true pseudocyesis will insist that she is pregnant despite the assurance that she is not. The problem requires very careful and sympathetic consideration with kindly explanation to the patient as to the reasons why she is not pregnant, together with appropriate proof that a pregnancy does not exist, although she may find even this difficult to accept.

Severe emotional disturbance may follow the realization that she is suffering from a false pregnancy and the woman's husband should also be acquainted with all the facts and treated with complete confidence, because his help is invaluable.

In past years this was a relatively confusing condition but with modern ultrasound scanning being available in most maternity units the diagnosis of pregnancy is usually made or refuted at a relatively early stage of pregnancy. Advanced phantom pregnancy is therefore an uncommon condition these days.
It is believed that eating placenta has lots of benefits to a mother who gives birth. There are different ways on how to consume the placenta after the woman gives birth for her to get the benefits, including the prevention of post-partum depression. For those who are squeamish at the thought of eating placenta, it is now available in capsule form for the mother to use as a supplement after giving birth.

Traditional Chinese medicine recognized the placenta as a vital and powerful part of the healing process. After giving birth, mothers typically experience blood loss, drop of hormones and fatigue. All those things contribute to the development of postpartum blues or postpartum depression. Placenta capsules are the best way to take the placenta because a mother will no longer have to prepare it as a dish and also because it is ready to take and will immediately aid vitamin and mineral loss.

Post-Partum blues affects the majority of women and it interferes with the role of a mother to a child. For those that don't want to resort to drugs, placenta encapsulation is an ideal way to avoid any complications and problems after giving birth. Both mother and father must be aware of postpartum depression for them to know how to manage and prevent it before it gets worse. Below are the symptoms of postpartum blues:

1. Feeling of dependency
2. Lack of concentration
3. Unexplained sadness
4. Weepiness
5. Mood instability

Post-partum depression causes:

1. Emotional and physical stress of birthing
2. Sleep deprivation and fatigue
3. Rapid hormonal changes
4. Lack of support from family and husband/partner
5. Absence of partner during birth
6. Teen age pregnancy

These days more and more women are experiencing postpartum depression and mood disorder after giving birth. Using placenta capsules during the post-partum period can prevent those symptoms and save money on costly treatments that are common when depression occurs. Placenta encapsulation is the fastest and easiest way to consume your own placenta.
Placenta encapsulation benefits:

1. Has the ability to sustain, heal and strengthen the uterus
2. Increase the mothers energy
3. Enhances the milk supply
4. Balances the hormones
5. Replaces the minerals and vitamins that are lost due to blood loss
6. Increases post-partum iron level
7. Assists the uterus to return to its normal size
8. Shortens the post-partum bleeding
9. Prevents baby blues
10. Brings the body back to its normal balance

Women who are taking placenta capsules report that they are experiencing fewer emotional issues after giving birth. They also notice that there is an increase in happiness and energy during the post-partum period. Moms who are taking placenta capsules consider them as happy pills. The role of your placenta is not only beneficial to babies, but also has great benefits to mothers. If you are worrying if placenta capsules are safe and will not cause any illness, you should worry no more since the placenta powder you will be taking comes from you. There are kits available to encapsulate your own placenta and the process doesn't take long. You can immediately take the capsule the day after you gave birth.
One of the bigger goals facing a woman would be to Lose baby weight after having a baby. In many instances, this may not seem as easy people think.

It can take a number of months if not a year in order to get one's body like one would like to have it. Even after the child has been born, a woman may still have the appearance of being pregnant. For nine months the body has been stretched out of proportion and it takes time to get all of this sorted out. It could be thirty days before the uterus reverts to its normal size. The woman will lose a lot of water for the first number of weeks of having given birth.

The majority of women would want the weight to come off right away. One way to get this going is to begin with mild exercising. The body should be introduced slowly into the exercise regime. Speaking to a doctor before doing this would be a wise thing to do. Exercise should not be contemplated until at least thirty days have passed.

Breastfeeding can be of huge benefit to a woman. Doing this will cause her to burn up at least five hundred calories per day. It is unwise to reduce calories as this could retard the production of milk needed for the baby. Losing too many calories could mean the influx of toxins into the body and this will affect the milk. It is okay to exercise when breast-feeding.

Due to the events that happen during the act of giving birth, there is a possibility that exercising may not be very practical. The mother may experience feelings of guilt while training and leaving the baby with someone else. There may be insufficient time to look after the baby, be a mom to other kids, to be a wife and exercise as well.

Exercising at home could be a way around this dilemma. Hormones may play up after the child is born and this could cause other problems. Should the mother's mood become different then seeking treatment could be an option. The act of breast-feeding can also sap much needed energy.

Combining muscular strength exercises with cardio vascular exercises is the best way to go when attempting to Lose weight after baby. Aside from the tummy that needs to be tightened, there are other areas of the body with which to be concerned. Arms, legs and buttocks will require exercising. The back will require strengthening exercises and over time, the body should be restored to its former self.
The question is whether one of the menopause symptoms could include an enlarged uterus. There are specific tests for diagnoses and treatments are available.

Causes and Symptoms of an Enlarged Uterus

An enlarged uterus is also called Endometriosis - a bulging formation that occurs in the uterus and continues to develop. It can sometimes be misconstrued as pregnancy. It is typically categorized by severe pain in the lower abdominal region. This pain occurs because of the pressure the enlarging uterus puts on the bladder. The extreme abdominal pain and possible bladder problems can be indicative of an enlarged uterus or other health conditions including pregnancy so it is strongly advised that you have the necessary exams and tests done to accurately identify the source of your symptoms.

Examinations and Tests Used to Diagnose an Enlarged Uterus

A laparoscopy is a surgical procedure used to examine internal organs. A pelvic examination is a physical examination by a physician of internal organs. An Endometrial biopsy is performed to rule out any possible malignancy as a cause for your symptoms. A hysteroscopy is similar to a laparoscopy but examines the reproductive organs specifically. An ultrasound scan and an MRI-magnetic resonance imaging test will produce images of the reproductive organs from which information can be gathered. Blood tests called a CBC- complete blood count may also be done to determine if hormone levels and body chemicals are at healthy levels.

For a specific diagnosis for enlarged uterus and or menopause a physical examination and some tests may be ordered by your doctor. These things will also help to rule out any other possible health concerns. It's better to have the test and find nothing serious than to not have them and have something serious going on.

Menopause symptoms could include an enlarged uterus because the changing hormone levels could mimic pregnancy. The uterus does change somewhat during sexual activity and this could affect the size of the uterus.

Treatment for an Enlarged Uterus

Current treatments include hormone therapies that can be very effective in treating enlarged uterus and other menopausal symptoms. Surgical examination can be done during a laparoscopy. In the past however, the typical treatment for an enlarged uterus was surgery that required a long incision or a complete hysterectomy- the complete removal of all reproductive organs.

Many women choose to use herbal supplements in treatment of menopause and they have been proven to be highly effective. If hormones are at a healthy level than it may be possible to treat it with herbal supplements but this is not known at this time.
An herbal supplement should be with only standardized herbal extracts and manufactured to meet pharmaceutical grade standards. The ingredients should have extensively tested including the metabolic route of the ingredients at the molecular level. The interactions of the ingredients should also have been tested.

All of this helps to guarantee consistent dosing and consistent quality from capsule to capsule. Herbal supplements are often chosen to avoid some of the serious side effects that can accompany traditional pharmaceutical treatments. Though they have far less side effects they should not be added to your health routine without your doctor's knowledge. Some herbs may interfere with the performance of prescriptions you may be taking for other health conditions.

Conclusion

The question was/is this: Can an enlarged uterus be one of many menopausal symptoms.
There are tests and treatments available including diagnostic imaging, physical examinations and blood tests. Treatments could include hormones but may also include the use of herbal supplements. If you have any of the symptoms listed here, consult your doctor to be on the safe side.
Once a month, one or more of these eggs develop to maturity by the complex mechanism of hormones regulated by the pituitary gland, and these eggs develop within a cyst, called a follicle cyst or a follicular cyst. These follicular cysts are, because they're a function, if you will, of the normal mechanism of the cascade of events that cause the ovulation process - their called functional cysts. Functional cysts are a couple of types. The first one is that the follicular cyst develops about mid-cycle. When the ovulation occurs, that cyst opens up. It releases the egg, and those cysts go away. Those cysts never get very large - mainly a couple of centimeters, as a general rule. They can become bigger.

The second part of the cycle is where the cyst was, a second type of cyst develops, that is called a corpus luteum cyst. This second phase of the menstrual cycle can be associated with a cyst forming where you actually have a fluid-filled corpus luteum cyst. Now, these can be quite large - more than a couple of centimeters. As a rule, they are not. And then, depending on whether or not conception occurs, this cyst will continue to develop and grow to some slight increase in size or there may not be a cyst with it. However, if there is, it's usually a few centimeters, maybe four, five centimeters maximum, as a general rule. The corpus luteum cyst has as a much larger, richer blood supply, and actually can be seen to have blood vessels by the naked eye if you were to look at one. That's going to be important also.

Now, these two types of functional cysts are again are, again, as we said, functional. They're going to occur, most of the time in a woman's lifetime, if she's ovulating, and that's why I said earlier, almost every woman has had cysts. New York Obstetrician Gynecologist Christopher Freville reckons most women just don't realize it and they are usually pain free. You wouldn't know - if you were ovulating, most of the time you wouldn't know you had a cyst. You might feel the ovulation process as a pain for a lot of reasons, usually associated with the egg moving down the fallopian tube. But, it's not really a function of the cyst itself.

Now, there are other types. So we've got these two types of functional cysts - the follicular cyst and the corpus luteum cyst. There are also other types of cysts. These are the non-functional, but they're benign, non-cancerous cysts. One type of cyst is called an endometrioma. Endometriosis is a condition - that's rather not uncommon - that can develop in women where the tissue from the lining of the uterus, the endometrium, gets into places it shouldn't be. And it can cause a lot of problems. For instance, the mechanism by how this happens - it could be that the endometrium is naturally there in these spots at the time of development of the fetus, or it could be that the uterine contractions at the time of the period actually force endometrium up through the tubes, and it sort of sprays into the abdomen.

Any rate, these endometriosis implants sometimes can attach to the ovary, and it can form like a little growth. These cysts can be rather painful, and endometriosis can be painful. And it's one cause of certain infertility, which causes a lot of women to seek work-up, treatment, tests, and at the end of the day, if there is endometriosis, these endometriosis implants can be treated by various combination of either surgery, pills.

But, the key for this discussion is the endometriosis when it's in the ovary can then grow just like the endometrium of the uterus, so that you are almost, in essence, are having a period on your ovary. And that mechanism can cause bleeding, and that endometriosis can actually be trapped in a cyst called an endometrioma. And these endometriomas kind of bleed. They stop, and they can go on for months, maybe longer. And the blood that accumulates with the blood inside the endometrioma has a dark look. In fact, it's a dark blood look. It's often called a chocolate cyst cause of the look - like chocolate.

I'm a kinesiologirt who has developed a 7-step process for unblocking blocked fallopian tubes, and helping women to get pregnant in the shortest time possible. I've had great success with my own private clients, and I'd like to share with you how I helped these women to get pregnant, and how you can overcome tubal infertility without surgery.

Step 1: Herbal Tampons & Herbal Douches

The key step in the process involves using herbal tampons to introduce a powerful herbal decoction to the reproductive organs and the fallopian tubes. The herbs in the tampons are designed to kill any infections left in the fallopian tubes, break up adhesions and scar tissues, and soothe swollen tissues.

The herbal tampons are used every night after menstruation and before ovulation, and the douche is used in the morning to cleanse the reproductive organs of any debris loosened up by the herbal tampons.

Step 2: Herbal Capsules For Blocked Fallopian Tubes

Step 2 involves taking a blend of herbs that strengthen the actions of the herbal tampons. This herbal blend is 100% organic, and is designed to help the immune system fight off infections that can block the tubes, as well as increase the fertility and boost the sex drive.

All of my clients who want to get pregnant with blocked fallopian tubes take herbal capsules 3 times a day, in addition to the herbal tampons.

Step 2: Chinese Fertility Massage

The fertility massage helps to open up the reproductive organs, as it can break up adhesions, soften scar tissue and improve the health of the fallopian tubes and uterus.

For best results, I ask my clients to perform this massage while wearing the herbal tampon.

Step 4: Fertility Yoga

The fertility yoga positions my clients practice help to overcome tubal fertility as they stretch the organs, and indirectly soften scar tissue. Some of the yoga positions are designed to increase the flow of blood, oxygen and nutrients to the pituitary gland (which governs the reproductive hormones), while other positions help the reproductive organs.

To increase the effectiveness of the herbal tampons, my clients perform the yoga every morning, before taking the tampon out.

Step 5: Total Body Cleansing For Fertility

The body cleansing for fertility program helps the body to get rid of toxins that damage the fertility, or cause the reproductive organs to become inflamed or infected.

It includes a colon cleanse, liver cleanse, kidney cleanse, heavy metal cleanse, and a parasite cleanse. All of these cleanses support the liver in recycling old hormones and maintaining the balance of hormones, and they can prevent conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis, PCOS, and PID, which can affect the fertility.

Another benefit of the body cleanse is that it can double the effectiveness of any herbal remedy you take. This means you will shorten the time it takes you to get pregnant by approximately 50% - if you decide to carry out this important step.

Step 6: Stress Management & Relaxation

It's important to manage your stress levels while trying to conceive, as stress can prevent you from getting pregnant. This is because when you're stressed, you release a hormone called cortisol, which can affect the balance of other hormones in the body (such as estrogen and progesterone).

When you're stressed, you're more likely to experience spasms in the fallopian tubes, or any other part of the reproductive organs, which can prevent sperm from reaching the egg, or it can prevent successful implantation.

The fastest way to manage stress is by listening to an audio CD, which puts your brain into a relaxation state. Once the brain waves have slowed down, the body will relax and be more conducive to conception.

Step 7: Nutritional Optimization

One of the fastest ways to boost the fertility is by changing the diet. I find that my clients get the best results by increasing their intake of raw fruits and vegetables to 9 portions a day. Eating fruits and vegetables in their raw form helps you to access the nutrients in the foods, increases your intake of antioxidants and alkalizes the body.

Antioxidants can help reverse the effects of free radicals and make the reproductive organs younger and healthier. They have also been proven to improve egg quality. To get the maximum amount of antioxidants in your daily intake, I recommend mixing an antioxidant into your juice every morning.

Alkalizing foods help to neutralize excessively acidic cervical mucus, which can be very hostile to sperm, and prevent conception. These foods also support your detoxification, as they create an internal environment in which bacteria and viruses cannot survive. The best way to eat a large quantity of nutrient dense foods is with an alkaline mix, which an contain a number of superfood fruits and vegetables, and can be available in a form that can be added to juice, water or smoothies.
Do the 7 steps for unblocking fallopian tubes work? The answer is yes - in the past 12 months, I have had success rates of 73%, and practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Shenzhen Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Guangdong, China, where doctors were achieving 82.22% success rates using a similar process. I'd like to share with you my success stories on helping women to get pregnant with blocked fallopian tubes [http://blocked-fallopian-tubes.com/unblock/], which is available on my website: [http://blocked-fallopian-tubes.com/unblock/]
nasrudinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05975580721389437239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5128939732784139478.post-6702115842888523742011-11-19T01:50:00.000-08:002012-02-11T02:01:23.353-08:00Uterus Location During Pregnancy

When pregnancy occurs the cervix rises up and becomes soft, the opening will remain close. The expanding uterus will then require more room and will achieve the extra space by moving into the abdominal cavity, rising up above the belly button. As the months goes by and specially towards the end of pregnancy, the abdomen will cause sleeping problems to some women, because it it so large, and it may be pushing the bladder, some women may also experience frequent urination.

When delivery time approaches, the baby's head drops into the pelvis, and it will cause more sleeping problems. In a normal pregnancy is typically found that by week 20 the uterus has risen above the belly button, or 20 cm above the pubic bone. In rare instances uterine fibroids during pregnancy may contribute to an unusual uterine position, and causing the baby's position to change as well. By the end of pregnancy week 37 the uterus is to the lower edge of the rib cage.

This complications are rare, and most time present themselves when the fibroids grow too large in the uterine cavity during pregnancy. Other uterine changes during pregnancy are; the amount of vaginal discharge increases, breast also enlarge and during the beginning of the pregnancy hurt, the nipple color and size changes, the woman's heart also increases work loud, and the enlarge uterus makes it difficult for the blood to go back down to the legs.

The woman's pregnant look is due to her enlarged uterus which urges the navel to bulge. An average fetus is about 20 inches long and weighs about seven pounds. The uterine changes during pregnancy are phenomenal, by the time pregnancy time is complete, the uterine full size is 36 cm, the depth is 22 cm, it's width24 cm, weighs 1000 grams, and it's thickness is about 0.5 cm. This is due to the fact that the uterus has to be able to accommodate a seven pound fetus.

Adopting new sleeping postures, and staying off your feet during the last part of your pregnancy may help with back problems and sleeping problems. Once pregnancy has been achieved, the fun of it will come with all the knowledge you will achieve about the physical changes of your body and the growth of your baby and uterus. This part of a pregnancy has been immortalized in every mother's pregnancy journal.
nasrudinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05975580721389437239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5128939732784139478.post-85433608029946593742011-11-18T01:59:00.000-08:002012-02-11T02:00:14.545-08:00Biggest Killer of Women Above 50 Years
it be breast cancer or even lung cancer? It sure is some of the most feared diseases a women can think of, but is it the biggest killer of women above 50 years old?

Surprisingly research and statistics reveals that cancer is not the culprit in this case, no heart disease takes the credit for this one. We often think of ourselves as being invulnerable to heart attacks and strokes, but if you are a woman in the menopausal stage of your life, then now is the time to pay attention.

According to research, women sure has a very definable advantage over men in terms of heart diseases, but we sure catch up very quickly and by the age of 65 have the same risk of having a heart attack, stroke or any other coronary disease as men do. Shockingly by this age, us women has a greater risk of dying from it.

As the physiological working and differences between men and women's hearts are only being studied now, it has became clear that these differences are literally killing us.We discuss the reasons:

1. Women's symptoms are different

A women can never be sick as they have to always be ready for the husband, the children and for themselves, thus they sometimes might feel a bit "under the weather" and can easily mistake these as normal aging or just being exhausted. Many times cardiac disease is being missed as a women's symptoms of cardiomyopathy is different and more subtle. They might have the classic symptoms which are known by the dooming chest pain and the all known pain down the left arm, but not always as they can sometimes have minimal discomfort and no chest pain at all. Women will usually notice the following when there is an underlying heart disease:

* Profound fatigue
* Difficulty breathing
* Feeling dizzy
* Nausea
* Vomiting
* Having an impending feeling of doom
* Profuse sweating
* Pain or discomfort in the neck, shoulder blade or upper back
* Burning abdominal pain

2. Treatment and response to treatment
When a women has been diagnosed with a heart disease or having a heart attack, they are treated with different medication as men. When women are treated for cardiac disease, the medication used may not work as effective with women as with men. It has been found that some anticoagulants just works better for men than women.

3. Diagnosing heart diseases
Normal testing procedures like the treadmill, stress test and angiography that are usually used to diagnose heart diseases are not helpful at all to diagnose women's heart disease. An angiogram is used to determine the health of blood vessels, but in women a vessel that has a significant plaque lining will show up clear and thus give false information. This happens when the plaque lining has not yet intruded into the vessel.

4. Women "tough it out"
No one ever want to admit that they are having a heart attack and usually try to convince themselves if they have symptoms of a heart attack that it is probably just indigestion or heartburn. Women has the tendency to minimize the discomfort of a cardiac pain and will thus wait long before admitting that they are having a heart attack and need medical assistance.

Women also have a higher tolerance for cardiac pain and will thus not experience it as agonising as men. This might sound all well, but it's not as it might mean that women with chest pain will not be treated as aggresively as in the case with men.

REDUCE YOUR RISK NOW!!

Although you can not control your age, gender and family history, there are many other factors that you can control in order to reduce your risk of getting heart diseases. You can surely change your lifestyle and your social behaviour. Making the right lifestyle changes can decrease your risk of heart disease by as much as 50% within 10 years. Here are some of the most important changes:

1. Stay on top of your health
It is extremely important to get yearly checkups in order to identify potential threats and problems. It is very important to have your blood pressure checked and to do a cholesterol screen. It is also very important should you suffer from diabetes or high blood pressure to monitor it closely and keep it within normal limits. This will help your body to cope with all the stresses and to have a more healthy lifestyle and ultimately live longer.

2. Stop smoking!
Everyone knows that smoking is bad for your health and it is very hard on your body. This is even worse for women than for men, but we won't tell them that else they think they have reason to continue smoking. Statistics shows that women that smokes has a much higher risk of heart disease much sooner than those that don't smoke.

3. Diet and exercise
I know it's that ugly word again.... diet!! If it was easy then all of us would be thin and fit, but it's not. Moving around more and getting used to a low fat diet are both things that can easily be controlled and managed and it will add years to your life.

4. Dont's stress, be happy
Stress and depression are quite tough on your heart and have adverse effects on your life. Always try to reduce your stress and enjoy a healthy lifestyle as this will ease some of the pressure on your heart.

5. Take aspirin
Aspirin can be very good to reduce the load on your heart, but should only be taken after a consultation with your practitioner. Aspirin can also be a very deadly medication during a stroke as it is an anticoagulant and will cause the sufferer to have continuous bleeding. Always consult your practitioner before using any new or long term medication.

6. Never forget your roots
It is always advisable to know what diseases were prominent in your family history. Knowing this can help you and your physician to plan the best treatmant and lifestyle based on your risk factor. Prevention is better than cure did my mom always use to say, and I am sticking to it.

7. Education, education and education
Educating yourself on any subject is the best weapon to fight anything. Always read about your health and the stages of your life in order to know what to be careful of, what to prevent and what is normal and what not. This way you will immediately notice if something is abnormal. When you have learned about it, spread the word and warn all your family and friends, they will thank you for it and you might save their life. Let's help each other stay healthy.

And now, repeat after me: I am IRREPLACEABLE!! Now believe it and live like you mean it.
These symptoms are often different from men's. In addition to the usual symptoms experienced by both sexes, women can experience abdominal discomfort or indigestion and maybe a burning sensation in the chest or upper abdomen. Their symptoms are also usually more subtle. Women experience chest pain occur less frequently than do men. Doctors have to be careful to make sure they do not miss a woman's signs during the office examination. Because women's symptoms are often misdiagnosed, they are far less likely to be treated with aspirin, beta-blockers, and other heart-attack prevention medications. This places them at greater risk due to a lost of time to seek medical attention. Knowing these symptoms creates an awareness for physicians and the public alike.

These symptoms include:

* Slight discomfort in the chest
* Uncomfortable pressure
* Shortness of breath
* Unusual fatigue
* Cold sweat
* Nausea
* Dizziness
* Fainting
* Pain below the left shoulder blade
* Back pain
* Tingling in the jaw, elbow, arm or throat
* Pain that spreads to the shoulders, neck, jaw or arms

Less common signs in women:

* Atypical chest pain
* Stomach or abdominal pain
* Unexplained weakness
* Fatigue
* Anxiety Palpitations
* Cold sweat or paleness

Both women and men may have "classic" chest discomfort, pressure or tightening that grips the chest and spreads to the shoulders, neck or arms. However, women can also experience: abdominal discomfort/indigestion burning sensation in the chest or upper abdomen. Women's symptoms tend to be less obvious than men's. Women's symptoms include a burning pain or heavy pressure in the chest instead of the vice-like pressure which many men get.

Heart disease remains the number one reason for death in both men and women. Because many women don't even know that they have heart disease, it's important to know the early warning signs and when it's time to see your doctor. Heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases claim the lives of more than half a million women each year in the United States. Heart disease sneaks up on you when you least expect it. Heart attacks, or myocardial infractions (MI), are the most dramatic manifestation of cardio vascular disease. MI's will affect approximately 345,000 American women this year. These symptoms are your body's way of telling you trouble is coming. Women push through their routines for hours or days, using antacids and over the counter pain relievers to mask MI symptoms. Women tend to report more nausea, indigestion, fatigue and pain that affects the chest, neck, jaw, shoulders and upper back. Women present themselves with nontraditional symptoms of stroke 62% of the time - much more frequently than men. Women are more likely to report pain as a symptom of their stroke, including chest pain, and sudden face or limb pain. Women may experience hiccups and heart palpitations during a stroke, which are more rare in their male counterparts. Women are also more likely to die from their heart attack. Women under 50 who were hospitalized for heart attacks were twice as likely to die from their heart attack than men. Women need and should pursue aggressive diagnostics for heart attack symptoms.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is accomplished via an electrocardiogram which details distinctive changes. Indigestion or a "panic attack" is a common diagnosis. A stress test can make a diagnosis that you have blocked arteries. In the past women have been overlooked when it came to the diagnosis, detection, and treatment of heart disease that resulted in negative health outcomes. Today, women no longer have to accept these inequalities. General knowledge of women's signs of heart attack can be effective in overcoming past misdiagnosis of women.

Procedures

Women get less of the recommended medicines and procedures than men and can take longer to get them. Women are much more likely than men to die within a year of having an attack. Women do not seem to do as well as men after taking clot busting drugs or undergoing certain heart related medical procedures. While more women than men die of heart disease, women undergo fewer cardiac surgical procedures. A recent discovery is that women's hearts and capillaries tend to be smaller than men's. This has lead to a redesigning of catheters and devices used in angioplasty and other procedures to meet women's needs.
Summary

Symptoms which are most common in women include fatigue, sleep disturbance and difficulty breathing, including shortness of breath, discomfort in shoulder blades, dizziness, nausea and painful indigestion. Heart attack symptoms follow a common pattern. Symptoms such as chest tightness and shortness of breath seem to be less common in women. Symptoms can be relieved with bed rest and by keeping well hydrated. Symptoms of a coronary, on the other hand, include severe pain in the chest and elsewhere in the upper torso, shortness of breath, nausea, and death. Early recognition of these signs will improve the chances of a woman surviving the heart attack. In the long run, there has to be improvement in the early diagnosis of heart disease in women.

It's heartbreaking to learn you have blocked fallopian tubes. I see it from questions on yahoo answers and wikianswers as well as other sites across the web. Other women who have had their tubes tied do so to create blockage on purpose. What these two different groups have in common in this article is the desire to have a child even though they face blocked fallopian tubes.

The first group above have a problem that is usually caused by some disease like Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). In fact, PID is the most common cause of blocked fallopian tubes. When the tubes are blocked, the egg cannot make the journey down the tubes to the uterus.

If they are only partially blocked, it is possible the sperm can make it to the egg and fertilize it. In this condition, if the egg cannot make the journey to the uterus, you will have an ectopic pregnancy. If not caught early enough, you will end up losing the fallopian tube or even develop life-threatening conditions.

A previous ectopic pregnancy may even be the cause of your tubal blockage at this point. Other possible conditions that could have caused the blocked*tubes are an uterine infection, abdominal surgery, surgery on your fallopian tubes, a sexually transmitted disease (which can also be the cause of PID), or even endometriosis.

Whatever the cause, blocked fallopian tubes is a diagnosis you will have to get from your doctor. He will confirm it with a special type of x-ray called hysterosalpingogram. You will see it called HSG in many places.

The second group above is made up of women who purposely had their tubes tied. Usually this is because one partner (or both) in the relationship thinks they have enough children.

However, the CDC tells us that about 25% of the women who have had their tubes tied change their minds and wish to have a pregnancy after tubal ligation. That's almost a million women each year who change their minds, usually due to some change in their situation like divorce and remarriage.

So what are these women in both groups to do? While some in the first group might try to find herbal concoctions to help do away with their blockage, if the cause of the blockage left behind scarring, then herbs or natural alternatives most likely won't help. That's when you have to look at two other alternatives for a pregnancy: IVF or tubal reversal.

As there have been several other articles written about these two alternatives, I won't go into the comparison here. It will be necessary for you to read and learn and then make the decision that is best for you. However, you now know that neither "naturally" blocked fallopian tubes nor having your tubes tied on purpose is a reason to not have a child. One of the alternatives will be best for you and your situation.
